'Summer Wine' - modern shrub, Kordes 1985. One of my big favourites. I have seen the rose for the first time in 1995 in Gothenburg Rosarium. It was love at the first sight! Flowers are single to slightly semi-double, salmon-pink with sunny-yellow highlight and honey-brown stamens on the wine-red background ring.. and they are something like "curly". The picture in catalogue is not very true, I am afraid.. The bush is almost always with some flowers. Anyway, I wanted to have the rose very badly, but it was not avaiable anywhere, not even at Kordes nursery. And I waited the very long time while asking everywhere about it. I even have got cuttings from one of Gothenburg Rosarium´s worker, and I failed with them.. But I never gave up. I wrote again an e-mail to Kordes in the autumn 1999 and I asked about the rose one more time, and it happened a mirackle! They answered that the rose will be again in sale, in 2000! And they propose me another one as well, in the same style, named 'Linderhof' (below), which I ordered as well, to not to make them disappointed.. 'Summer Wine' in Gothenburg Rosarium is ca 100- 120 cm tall, and mostly healthy, it overwinters much better than many other rose shrubs, almost without damages after frost and wind, without snow cover as usually at the coast of the Middle Sweden. And it has wonderful, wild rose scent.. Eventualy I have bought the rose in October 2000 and planted in the new bed called 'The Little Rosarium'. And - it happened the tragedy.. the rose did not make it after winter.. it was dead. Kordes-nursery promised me a new one, but not before the autumn.. and I´ve got it! I planted the new plant in early October 2001. I waited with anxiety if the rose wakes up. And it did - rather early, without any damages. It became bushy at once! I was so glad to see the first flower in June 2002!

Summer Wine - Kordes 1985. Min mycket efterlängtad ros, kärlek från första ögonkastet! Det sa "klick" när jag har sett den sommaren 1995 i Göteborgs Rosarium. Jag ville ha den för varje pris.. men den fanns inte någonstans. Jag skrev då till Kordes och frågade, det var konstigt att rosen  inte fanns i hans katalog och sedan inte heller på Internet. De svarade nej - det fanns inte i försäljning. Jag var mycket besviken och förtvivlad, till och med försökte rota sticklingar (fick dem från en dam anställd i Rosariet) som tog sig tyvärr inte.. Men jag gav inte up och i 1999 skrev jag till Kordes igen. Och vilken glädje, de svarade att rosen SKA komma i försäljning nästa år, 2000!  och de erbjudit mig en till, lite liknande ros som de trodde kan vara i min smak - som hette Linderhof. Jag beställde bägge två, av artighet.. och då fick jag bygga en helt ny bädd på ett ganska omöjligt ställe - fylld med stenar med bara Bergenia. Jag grävde upp alla stenar och byggde ganska hög bädd, först för 6 rosor, men det blev sju istället.. Summer Wine har enkla, laxrosa blommor, en aning krulliga, med ljusgul centrum och honunggula ståndare på en vinröd ring i mitten (sägs i katalogen), och den doftar fräsch vildros doft. Bilden i katalogen är inte alls rätt.. Busken i Rosariet är inte mycket hög, högst upp till 150 cm men ganska bred. Rosen är för det mesta frisk och övervintrade alla värsta vintrar mycket bättre än flera andra rosor i närheten. I de elaka vintrarna 1996/97 och  2000/2001 var Summer Wine en av dem få som klarade sig mycket bra, påtagligt bättre än de flesta andra. Busken blommar ständigt med få korta uppehåll. Jag fick rosen i oktober 2000 och planterade i den nya, 'Lilla Rosariet'. Och sedan hade det hänt ett tragedi - rosen som hade sina skott gröna tidigt på våren, började tyna bort för varje dag, tills den dog. Jag hoppades och hoppades - men den var stendöd.. enda av alla planterade där 7 rosor.. Jag skrev till Kordes och de lovade mig en annan Summer Wine, men inte förrän hösten, tyvärr.  Jag har fått en ny planta i oktober början 2001 och på våren 2002 väntade med oro om plantan vaknar till liv. Och det gjorde rosen, alla 5 skott var oskadade efter vintern och inom kort började växa blad. Rosen var buskig redan från början - och vilken glädje när  äntligen kom den första blomman! Och jag kände den igen..

'Linderhof' - modern shrub rose, Kordes 1999. Rather tall, up to 180 cm. Bushy and strong growth with a little archy branches, dense - recommended for hedges. Flowers single, intensive pink with light, white-yellow centre, curled, slightly wild-rose scented. Linderhof, modern buskros från Kordes, nyhet från 1999. Skulle bli ca 180 cm, buskigt och tätt med lite överhängande grenar, rekommenderad till blommande häckar - alltid med blommor som är starkrosa med ljus, nästan vit mitt och gul centrum. Lätt doftande som en vildros.

The rose is growing rather well, has got already ca 70cm long branches. After first flowers in the end of July they were comming next, in late August. Rosen växer ganska snabbt, har fått redan ganska långa grenar (ca 70cm) och fortsätter blomma i augusti.

The rose is growing fast, already in June 2002 has got  ca 120 cm long branches. It could be as well a climber, I think, it is rather slender with its flexible, thiny shoots. Rosen växer verkligen snabbt, redan i juni 2002 har fått  120 cm långa skott! Man kan nästan tänka sig den som en mindre klätterros, grenarna är tunna och lätt böjliga.

'Linderhof' has got more flowers now, half of July - it is flowering all the time since June, while other roses in 'Lilla Rosarium' is mostly resting now. It has got more flowers than in the beginning. And - no deseasies ! 'Linderhof' blommar outtröttligt  hela tiden sedan juni till nu, 20 juli 2002, medan flesta andra rosor i 'Lilla Rosariet' vilar nu. Den får även mer blommor än från början. Så länge är rosen helt frisk, utom några håll gjorda troligen av okända larver.

The shrub is still small, no more than 25-30cm, but I know it is going to be rather wide and ca 150 cm tall. The rose is all healthy and has got maybe 6 -7 flowers.  After ca 15 July the rose is resting, and new, red shotts is growing. Busken är fortfarande liten, inte mer än 25-30 cm, men jag vet att den bli så småningom ganska bred och ca 150cm hög. Rosen är mycket frisk. Den har fått redan ca 6 -7 blommor men efter ca 15 juli 2002 vilar rosen och bara skjuter nya, röda skott.

'Linderhof' became the tall (ca 2m) and very dense shrub in 2003. It has not been damages after the hard winter 2002/2003 at all! It was only some insects on it in the spring. I think it could be as well as climbing rose because of getting some really long shoots. Linderhof  övervlevde den stränga vinter 2002/2003 utomordentligt bra. Inga som helst frostskador! Busken blev ca 2m hög och så tät som ingen annan ros. Några skott är så långa att rosen kunde lika bra vara klätterros, tror jag, ju mer att grenarna är ganska elastiska också.
